Genius Hour Proposal

  1. What is your project: I will be creating a simple Rubik's cube video-game using Net Beans.
      2. What is your driving question that you are investigating or learning: How can I use Net Beans to pull out a window so that the player can solve the Rubik's cube.

      3. Who will work with you on this project: Nick will be doing the same project, however he will be doing it as an app, and I will be doing it on a computer, using Net Beans. 

     4. Who is the audience for your project: The people at the Genius Hour presentation.

     5. Why is this project worthwhile: Because the idea of making a video game interests me.

     6. What do you expect to learn from this project:  How to use Net Beans to make a video game.

     7. Name a number of areas of learning: I would like to learn more about C++, time-management, and programming skills in general.

     8. What PRODUCT will you have to show at the end of the year to visitors who come to learn from you: I will show them my program, and I will offer them a chance to solve a randomly generated Rubik's cube.

     9. What sort of expenses will be involved in your project and how will you cover them: The use of a computer and Net Beans, which will be accessible at school for free. Also the purchase of a 3x3 Rubik's Cube, which should be $10. 

     10.What sort of equipment will you need and where will you get it: Similarly to the previous question, I will need to use a computer with Net Beans, which will be accessible at school. Also the purchase of a 3x3 Rubik's Cube, which should be $10. 

     11.What is your timeline for completing (or launching) your project: 
  • Over the spring break- Figure out how to solve a Rubik's Cube
  • April- Figure out how to program the Rubik's Cube in Net Beans
  • May- Program the Rubik's Cube in Net Beans
  • June- Finalize and Test before Genius Hour Presentation
    12. List many of your tasks you will need to complete that month and indicate which tasks were done or not: 
  • March- Figure out how to solve a Rubik's Cube
  • April- Figure out how to program the Rubik's Cube in Net Beans
  • May- Program the Rubik's Cube in Net Beans
  • June- Finalize and Test before Genius Hour Presentation
   13.  How will you present it during our Celebration of learning (a presentation day after school with parents and other visitors invited to visit: At a desk with you or your group in front of a computer in the library (every 15 minutes parents/visitors wander around asking questions of you and you show your learning, then they go to a presentation, then back to you).
